FLOW 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020: The Rivanna River Environmental Art Festival,

Organized and curated by Chroma Projects, FLOW’s collaborating partners include The Rivanna Conservation Alliance as our fiscal agent, along with the McGuffey Art Center, the Rivanna River Company, and the Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center.

Each year FLOW features many of the previous years’ visual and performing artists interpreting the river, along with a constantly changing number of new ones. Visitors to the event encounter their diverse gifts of creativity, tucked into natural wooded grottoes and overlooks along the river trail, expressing the history, ecology, beauty and spiritual traditions of the river.

Environmental organizations will have informational tables as well, so that visitors may learn about the work that is being done on behalf of the river and other care taking efforts.

In past years we have been pleased to have Alex Nyerges, Director of the VMFA and his artist wife, Katherine, as well as Jeffrey Allison, Paul Mellon Educator and curator of Virginia Statewide Partnerships and the Art Mobile as our jurors for the River Bank Plein Aire Painting Event, the Site Specific Environmental Sculpture, and the FLOWtilla Spontaneous Art Boat Parade.

FLOW is free and open to the public. Parking is at Darden Towe Park. Wear a mask, comfortable shoes and plan to walk a mile in some rugged terrain!
